Lorri Lee Lown
Velo Girls Founder & USA Cycling Expert Coach
Lorri has been cycling since 1999. She's completed three California AIDS Rides, the Alaska AIDS Vaccine Ride, and more centuries than she can count! During 2004, she began racing with the Velo Girls Racing Team, and has completed more than 50 races -- road, criterium, time trials, stage races, cyclocross, and cross-country mountain bike.
In 2001, Lorri made a life-changing decision to pursue a career in the fitness industry. With the goal of combining her many years of teaching experience with her newfound love of fitness, she returned to school full-time to become a personal fitness trainer and professional cycling coach.
Lorri is a USACycling Expert (Level 2) Coach, a certified Spinning® Instructor, and an ACE-certified Personal Fitness Trainer. She completed the six-month Personal Fitness Trainer certificate program at Foothill College in 2002 and a handful of coaching education programs at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, focusing on resistance training for the cyclist, training with power, and bike fit, biomechanics and injury prevention. She has worked as a teaching assistant in the Adaptive Physical Education (disabilities) program at the College of San Mateo, and taught Spinning® at Foster City Athletic Club, Prime Time Athletic Club and the Bay Area Fitness Center (formerly World Gym) in Burlingame, and at Club One (Electronic Arts) in Redwood Shores. In addition to coaching, she has worked at Summit Bicycles in Burlingame since 2002.
In her previous life, Lorri received a BFA in Theatre Arts Management from Ithaca College and an MBA in Organizational Management from Syracuse University. For 13 years, she managed professional theatres followed by a two-year stint in the corporate sector as a project manager and web developer.
Lorri has been coaching full-time since 2001. She founded Velo Girls and developed all the coaching programs and clinics, including the development of the highly-successful Velo Girls Racing Team. She also coaches and trains private clients (cycling and non-cycling). Her coaching services include testing, bike fit, and program development. She's active in the cycling community as a ride leader, coach, and workshop leader for a number of charity cycling programs (AIDS LifeCycle, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Arthritis Foundation). She also presents cycling and fitness clinics focusing on nutrition, heart rate training, flexibility, strength, and cycling skills. She was recently a guest coach at a week-long women's cycling camp in Northern California. She served as chair of the Yoplait Women's Grassroots Cycling Task Force, focused on developing programs for women racers. In 2005, Lorri begins a new project -- coaching a high school mountain bike team!

Sarah made her Velo Girls coaching debut in 2005 when she co-coached Girls Got Skills® to rave reviews and will be returning in 2006 to co-coach Girls Go Fast®, Guys Go Fast®, and Girls Got Skills®.
