China Camp State Park is a gorgeous North Bay location with sweeping views of San Pablo and San Rafael bays. This ride is designed for Beginners approaching Early Intermediate level riders to develop skills and explore some fun trails. Not sure of your level? Check here.
We plan to ride a basic loop of about 9 miles – which we can do twice, if anyone is interested! The loops starts with a gentle climb where riders will have the opportunity to practice some switchbacks while warming up. The trail continues along the top edge of the park, shaded by trees. Minor technical challenges such as rocks and roots provide more opportunities for practice. Riders are encouraged to “session” areas as needed. After the climbing is finished, riders are rewarded with a long, leisurely downhill cruise through the trees on some fun singletrack. We will take a break at a nice scenic vista, then continue downhill back to the parking area, hitting a few more switchbacks for extra practice.
We will meet at the entrance to the Back Ranch Meadows Campground. This is at the intersection of North San Pedro Road and Back Ranch Meadows Road. PLEASE NOTE: the linked map/location on this meet up might be incorrect so please follow these directions or comment below with any questions! From 101 North: take the N. San Pedro exit. Travel east on N. San Pedro Road. This road winds through a neighborhood, then you will notice the bay on the left and signs for “China Camp State Park.” The entrance to Back Ranch Meadows is on the right. You may pay to park in the lot or park for free on the street.
There is a fee of $3 to use the trails. In order to ride with us, you will need to pay this fee. The “iron ranger” accepts exact cash and credit.
You will need a mountain bike in good working condition, helmet, and water for this ride. Snacks and flat pedals might make the ride more fun!
Rain cancels the ride. Check back here if that seems possible.
YES! There are bathrooms and water near the meeting location.
Questions? Carpool? Post in comments below.
